First off, I know you get paid to do this job. You are not a volunteer. This means that any cash you manage to get out of harassing people on their way to work, some of it is going straight into your pocket. Second of all, you’re a stranger, on the street, with a clipboard and a vest. No, I’m really not interested in giving you my credit card number. I’d rather take a few steps to the left and hand it to that homeless man. Finally, we’re not friends. I don’t know you and I’d rather go meet my actual friend for that overpriced cup of coffee that I am already late for than stop and talk to you.
I think this form of fund raising is cruel to those doing it and annoying to those subjected to it. So charities, I beg of you, just don’t. Organize a gala, sell chocolates, send out spam…anything but this.
