Seals are ridiculously cute and adorable sea mammals. Pigs are sweet, stinky land mammals. I am okay with the hunting of wild seals about as much as I’m okay with the breeding, raising and eventual baconating of pigs.
I just don’t see the difference.
Well, except for the fact that the seals are free roaming, happy ice fatties until they’re killed. Pigs on the other hand are forced to live how we need them to in order to support Canada’s desire for all things bacon at competitive prices.
Now when they crown me dictator of all the universe, I will enact some pretty strict laws on animal consumption and hunting. But until that glorious day, I propose the following: we need to think really hard on what kind of conditions food producers had to jerry rig to bring us a bacon cheese burger for a mere 3.89$. Once we have I wonder how many of us will be able to say that the seal hunt of Eastern Canada is the most barbaric and unnecessary thing we’ve ever heard of.
