For most of us, thinking a child, especially any under the age of one, as overweight is absurd. So why would it cross anyone’s mind as okay to make comments like “Oh, she’s never going to live down being so big once she’s older,”. Yep, someone actually said this to a new mom about her sweet, gorgeous and happy baby. They’re probably right though, better sign that kid up for some hot yoga ASAP before the other babies at playtime start in with the fat jokes.
Bottom line of this rant? Watch what you say about people’s babies. The parents are probably working their butts off to give their children the best start possible and do not need to be worrying what people are thinking about how big their kids are. And then watch what you say to kids. Crap like, “Boys don’t like fat girls,”, “You’re fat”, and “You’re so scrawny, better put some meat on your bones” (yes, all things adults have said to children) is never, ever acceptable. Go deal with your own hang-ups and issues instead of contributing to the next generation of eating disorder patients.
