It got me thinking about just how much we rely on gadgets and handheld technology on a daily basis. Ever lost your phone and felt like that three year old left behind in the dairy section at the grocery store? It is terrifying! And then I thought, why? Why do I need my phone or any of these other little conveniences? Some people allude to a simpler time when you memorized phone numbers and read maps instead of digitally storing them for later use, as if we have somehow lost something in recent years.
I personally think that’s a load of crap. Rolodexes and address books can be lost too. Maps, yes, even paper ones, can be misread. The dependence on technology is just the new way of doing the same old business and I’m generally okay with it. That being said, I’m going to go write out all my contacts in my address book just in case my phone decides to take a vacation.
