Okay, that was mean. But it’s because I’m kind of annoyed with this woman…because she’s annoyed about heroin.
Lemme explain. People sometimes use drugs, and this includes alcohol so don’t get all sanctimonious here. A lot of the time people only try out drugs or use them occasionally, but sometimes usage gets outta control. This is called addiction. It most certainly is an illness and should be treated as such. Abusing drugs is bad because it makes people crazy, and sickly and sometimes, deadish.
I’m just gonna assume that we’re all in agreement that this is a problem.
But saying just “stop using” is not gonna help too many people. So we sometimes meet people living with addiction in their happy high place, and then we talk about steps to getting well. For people with heroin addictions, we sometimes give them methadone to help them get that fix. And sometimes that works... and sometimes it doesn't.
So for 16 Canadians brutally addicted to heroin, the Special Authority Program has approved medically administered heroin.
This is clean heroin, with clean needles. There will be doctors and nurses, and bottles of narcan aplenty. There will be no dying from over-dosing. It will be getting people their fix, which will keep them from going bat shit crazy, and then working on things like showering and eating. Because those things don’t matter when you’re needing to get high.
Rona Ambrose thinks it’s just a way to get addicts their heroin on the tax payer’s dollar. Please don’t buy into her shit. Heroin is not patented, so it’s cheap to synthesize. It’s covered in red tape which is a bitch but what if, just what if, it works? What if these people get better?
And if they don’t, we haven’t lost anything except maybe a few Hep C transmission opportunities from using dirty needles or ER visits from over dosing. And trust me taxpayers, both of those very real examples are common and cost us plenty.
Come on Rona, it’s 16 very sick people. It’s not like it’s going on the hot lunch program at elementary schools. You’re a politician, not a doctor or an opioid addiction researcher. You don’t know shit about this so calm the fuck down before you get people all riled up over nothing. But I guess getting people all bent outta shape about giving those terrible addicts their terrible drugs works for you, because maybe then we will be distracted from how clueless you are.
